Framing Started Today

The framing of the house has begun! I can't believe how fast those walls can go up. At the end of today we had most of the outside walls of the basement up. Andy and Nick have been working hard on the garage - they are ready to put the plywood up on the roof.

Beams

Today a 500 pound beam was brought in for the garage by crane. I was wondering how they were going to get this up on the second floor of the garage. Andy tells me the whole process including cutting and attaching the beam only took 20 minutes. Thank goodness for cranes.

Finally a yard!

Ever since we excavated the hole for the house back in November, we've had a huge pile of dirt blocking the view or mental image of where the yard would be. The excavators flattened the pile of dirt this last weekend so now you can get a better idea of where the yard will be. Not sure if it will be all grass....that's a lot of grass to mow! We're going to need some serious landscaping, but I think I'll save that for the last project. Look back at previous posts to see the difference.

Ever since we excavated the hole for the house back in November, we've had a huge pile of dirt blocking the view or mental image of where the yard would be. The excavators flattened the pile of dirt this last weekend so now you can get a better idea of where the yard will be. Not sure if it will be all grass....that's a lot of grass to mow! We're going to need some serious landscaping, but I think I'll save that for the last project. Look back at previous posts to see the difference.

What a day!

Today was a little interesting. We had a few dump truck loads of rock brought in to finish up filling in the space between the foundation and ground level. As the truck was dumping it's last load for the day he backed up a little too far and tipped over (everyone is safe!!). Unfortunately it fell over on the retaining wall that was just about to have concrete poured later in the day and our house foundation. We're not sure how much damage there is, but the retaining wall has to be redone and all the many tons of rock that have been poured, leveled, and compacted over the last week have to be dug out so we can see the potential damage. There is some damage to the foundation...but too soon to tell just how much. The truck had to be turned over by two huge tow trucks and once it was upright you could tell it was totaled.

This is the truck after it was turned right side up...the dump part shouldn't be at that angle. The truck is toast.

You can tell spring is on it's way...here is a cherry tree all full of pretty blossoms. It's the only thing in bloom on the entire property.

2nd Floor

This week Andy has been working on the second floor of the garage and waterproofing the basement of the house. Hopefully the garage will have all 4 upper walls by the end of the week. Framing on the house is set to start on Monday.
