Snow??!!?

Today when I let Chloe outside, I was surprised to see that it snowed overnight. I called Andy since he had already been at work for a while, but he didn't believe me. See...here's proof!

The concrete was poured for the house foundation today. Here's the final picture of the forms. Normally they would come down the next day, but becuase of this crazy weather they'll stay up until Friday.

Today we got our first materials delivery and Andy and his crew started working on the garage. It's currently snowing but before it started, they got two of the walls up.

Foundation Forms

I know I have been posting daily....but I'm trying to make up for all that time when nothing really was progressing with our house. After the footings were poured the concrete guys are now working on putting up the foundation forms. The garage is already done...it was much easier than the house. Two sides of the house have 11 foot concrete walls while the other two have 2 foot. The concrete pour is scheduled for next Wednesday. We are also having lovely rainy weather so you can see the lovely pools of chocolate milk colored rain puddles.

This is a concrete spreader....I always thought it came out of tube out the back of a mixing truck. This is used so they can access each area of the form. I had no idea...

Checkpoints

Now that we officially have the permit to build we have a long list of checkpoints and inspections that we will have to go through over the next year. Today we passed our first set. Erosion control, footings, and foundation (for just the garage). Now that these inspections have passed we can officially start pouring concrete tomorrow.

To help make sure we passed the Erosion control inspection Andy and I had to spread 17 bales of hay over the muddy dirt and soil this weekend. It was actually kind of fun....but I think I'll stick to my desk job. The highlight of my day was the new pair of boots...but I was a little sad that they got so muddy.

This is the view looking at the front of the house. The tarp is on the mound of dirt that will eventually be pushed out and flattened and will become the yard just off the walk out basement. Yeah!!

The new year has definately brought some good news. At the very beginning of January we got an offer on our house. We officially close on 02/16/07. We will be moving in with Andy's parents Gary & Linda.

Then on 02/12/07 we got the call we had been waiting for. The city had finally approved the plans for the garage and the house. This week the forms for the footings should be set up and hopefully within the next week we'll have our first concrete pour. It's official now....we're really building!

Floor Plan Update

Still waiting, but we did decide to change our floor plan. The new one is very similar to the original...just a few tweaks and the footprint stretched out by 3 feet. Since we had to get a few more things done at the city we found that it would take just as long if we switched plans than if we waited for the original one to be completed. We were planning on making a handful of changes to the original plan during construction, but this new one incorporates all the changes ahead of time. So in a way this will make it easier!!

Still waiting

It's looking as if we won't be starting the house until after the new year. We've had a few set backs...most having to do with one nasty lady down at the city. We finally have overcome her nastiness and are so close to having approved permits. I was reading some old emails and I found our original submission to the city. We began this process June 20th. I can't believe it's taken this long. I've heard it takes a while to get your plans approved, but this has been ridiculous.

On a positive note - while we've been waiting for the go-ahead we've had time to finish up on some projects. Our current house is all done and has been on the market for the last month. Complete with new roof, carpet, windows, paint, and total kitchen remodel!! Good thing it hasn't sold yet considering we have no place to move to.



And then there was Pine Street........

The down time has also allowed us to finish up on our first adventure in house flipping. Pine Street as we lovingly named it was just completed and as of yesterday it is officially on the market. Anyone need a 3100 sq ft house and a lot to build on??













And yes they are the same color!! I liked the color we painted Pine Street so much I decided to paint our house the same.
