We've Graduated!

Ellery & Emily checking out our fish tank

Today Emily & Ellery had their 6 month check in with the Developmental Pediatrician. Last time we were in I was hoping she would tell us that she didn't see any preemie issues and that we would never have to come back again. While she didn't tell us they had preemie issues she said she wanted to keep track of them until maybe 1st grade (1st grade!?!) just for fun and curiosity and to keep an eye on things since they were micro preemies. The girls wouldn't "preform" for her so she didn't get to hear them talking and see how agile they were. We always felt worse after these appointments because we would go into them thinking that the girls are walking, talking, eating, ect before they were expected to but yet the Dr would dwell on Emily's weight or something else. We would have mixed feelings...and not to mention that insurance doesn't cover all of these visits. Andy and I decided we'd go one more time just to see what happens. We were pretty confident that the Dr was going to be blown away by all the amazing things the girls are doing.....and SHE WAS! She said she was thrilled with their progress and their verbal and social skills were amazing. Emily even made it on the growth chart....slightly. Emily weight just under 25lbs and Ellery was 27.7lbs. This was the first time they've been in to see this Dr and not cried. Six months ago stripping them down to diapers and weighing them was a traumatic experiences. This time they willingly laid down on the height chart and walked onto the scale. She really only wanted to weigh Emily but Ellery felt left out and wanted to do it too. All great news. Best of all she agreed to release us from her observation and that the girls had "graduated". Yahoo! Take that prematurity!

We will also hopefully close (literally) another preemie chapter in our book on Friday as Emily has the heart procedure to close the PDA. I've been waiting for this day for almost 2 years and now that it is here I have very mixed feelings. But...Emily is a fighter and after everything else she's been through this should go smoothly.

This is all such good news. The girls have certainly grown into amazing little toddlers and you would never know they were so very tiny when they were born.

Good job Em & El. Grammy Bobbi and Grandpa Bill love you so very much!

Awesome report!! You and Andy should be very pleased and thrilled about how far your girls have come. It is totally normal to have the mixed feelings you are having. We will be sending you good thoughts and tons of prayers on friday. Fingers crossed that all goes perfectly; she is a little fighter! If you need anything, please let us know. It will be nice to have all the "chapters" closed in prematurity.

Fabulous report - Woohoo! Love your reaction of "Take that, prematurity!"
I'll be thinking of Emily on Friday and look forward to reading your post about another preemie chapter closed.
