The first 24 hours
Well we made it through our first day with twin babies pretty smoothly if I do say so myself. Last night was a little questionable however. In the NICU I was convinced our girls didn't cry, were very quiet, and slept in between each feeding. Last night was just the opposite. Just as i finished my blog post last night and turned off the lights I hear a blood curdling scream. WOW where did that come from??? Emily was awake and MAD. This continued for the entire night with each girl trading off. Of course they were perfectly content if we picked them up and comforted them. I finally was able to sleep about 5am and both girls fell asleep. Not what i had planned for our first evening. Luckily by morning they were sleeping and quiet and continued like that for the rest of the day. This happens to many NICU babies when they get home. The NICU is loud and bright so sleeping in a dark and quiet room is not what they are used to. Hopefully we can transition to dark and quiet very soon. :) We LOVE having these little girls home!!!

Dear Heather and Andy,The girlies are absolutely adorable. They both look bigger and healthy. You must be very reasured that they are exercising their lungs so well for you now that they are home. Good for Emily to be the one with the loud cry yesterday. So now the reality of being home begins. Your nights will be mixed up for a while but once the girlies get a handle on things ie; they are totally in charge of the rest of your lives, all will settle down and become normal.....whatever normal is. Some babies just prefer to sleep during the day so my best advice is if they sleep at the same time you might want to sleep then as well. At this point you are going to need all the rest you can get as they are going to keep you on your toes. Babies are just so special; enjoy every minute with them. I love reading all of your updates and have been giving Linda some messages for you. Let me know when you would like me to bring dinner over.......I will not even ask to see Ellery and Emily until you are ready for visits. I so agree with all you have said about keeping them away from germs and having all hands washed at all times.By the way, the nursery looks absolutely delightful. Please know that you are in my thoughts and heart every day.Much love and many hugs, Aunty Patti
