These are the stairs in the garage going up to the apartment. Until now the only way to get up was on a ladder through a window. No thank you!

The framers put down the first floor boards/basement ceiling - this is the view of the main floor.

The ditch has been covered up and the road now looks like it did when we started....maybe even a little cleaner.

What a lovely weekend!

This is how we spent the weekend. Digging trenches. Most of the road work was done on Friday but then on Saturday and Sunday the trench was dug from the road all the way up to the house and garage (no pics sorry!). The nice compacted driveway had to be demolished. The trenches were dug to lay the pipe for the water & sewer lines.

Framing Started Today

The framing of the house has begun! I can't believe how fast those walls can go up. At the end of today we had most of the outside walls of the basement up. Andy and Nick have been working hard on the garage - they are ready to put the plywood up on the roof.

Beams

Today a 500 pound beam was brought in for the garage by crane. I was wondering how they were going to get this up on the second floor of the garage. Andy tells me the whole process including cutting and attaching the beam only took 20 minutes. Thank goodness for cranes.
