1 Week Down!
Well, I survived my first week back at work. The week leading up to my return was by far worse than the actual few days. Thank goodness for Nike's return to work program that allows me to go back part time for the next few months. If I had returned full time it would be a totally different story.
The girls seemed to do well without me. In fact the greeted me everyday with smiles...ok no they actually seemed to cry as soon as I got home and for the rest of the night. But I'm sure those were tears of joy...."Thank goodness mom is finally home!!". That's what I am telling myself at least.
They are still working on their smiles and the massive amounts of spit up seem to have decreased. We now hold them forever after each bottle and then they go directly into a swing or bouncy chair. They had their remaining vaccinations this week. Last week was their 4 month well baby appointment and I had them split up their immunizations so we could keep an eye on them and make sure they tolerated the shots (based on 2 month reactions). I am happy to report we had no side effects or issues!!!! They may have been a little more fussy, but I honestly don't think it's because of the immunizations but most likely because they've hit that fussy period that starts at about 6 weeks and lasts a month or so. Again, that is what I'm telling myself.

Back to work
Today will be my first day back to work. It seems to have happened a lot faster than I was expecting. While I've had the last four months off, the girls have only been home for the last two. I keep thinking about what it would have been like to be with them the entire four months. That is the way it was supposed to happen. I feel like I'm leaving them just as they are beginning to develop into something other than sleeping, eating, crying, and pooing machines. Now at least we get a few smiles and a few minutes of awake non crying time, and I can only imagine how much more will change over the coming weeks.
The girls are just over 1 month past their due date so they look and act like a 4 week old baby would. Of course that also means they start keeping us up at night. We've been spoiled so far by the girls sleeping well, but that seems to be changing. I think they are trying to protest my return to work. I've been up since 4am feeding the girls and holding them for as long as possible so I don't end up covered in the contents of the bottle they just drank (REFLUX!). I've realized there is no point in showering or getting dressed each day - because as soon as I do, someone promptly spits up. My hair is permanently crunchy. Maybe this is why many moms have short hair??
Oh well, maybe I should just get used to waking up at 4am to make it into work by 8. I've always heard that with twins you'll never be on time again in your life. :) But I also know this stage of spit up & sleep deprivation will only last a little while. We've been so lucky this far, what's a few more weeks of a funky sleep pattern and excessive loads of laundry (I had to wash the bouncy chair cover TWICE yesterday thanks to Emily).
Oh and I'm actually going back to work 3 days a week for the rest of the summer - so don't feel too sorry for me and my sob story above. I'll still have 4 days in a row with the girls. There may come a time when I'll be excited for my 3 days off. :)

More smiles and a few tears
Usually one baby is happy and one is upset or both are crying. Here's a typical moment, except we're finally getting some smiles from Ellery!!!
Yikes! I got a new camera and the video quality is so much better, but the files are so much bigger. It took forever to load this.....enjoy because I don't know how many more videos you'll be getting in the future if it takes this long to load! :)

4 Month Dr Visit
On Monday Emily and Ellery turned 4 months old, although developmentally they are 1 month old. Can you believe it? We also had our first visit to the ped in a month. The girls are doing great, although their reflux is really starting to act up bringing lots of tears and spit up (mostly from the girls but a little from their parents). Hopefully we get this under control soon!!! We were also weighed. Ellery weighs 9lbs 6oz and Emily weighted 8lbs 4oz. They are getting so big! They are now 21 and 20 inches long. We also got some of our 4 month immunizations, we decided to space them out a little bit so the girls could tolerate them a little better. I'll be taking them back in next week for the rest.

Swaddleing
The girls HAVE to be swaddled at night otherwise they wake themselves up because they are moving their arms around so much. However, it's not an easy task. After we swaddle them, they spend a few minutes fussing and trying to get out. Sometimes they succeed and other times they tire themselves out and fall asleep. I swear they are going to be escape artists when they are older, no matter how well I swaddle they still find a way to get their little arms out. Through the top or out the bottom it doesn't matter.
This is Emily all wrapped up.
Ellery, minutes after i just re-wrapped her. Don't worry, this was in the morning when i was watching them. At night, they usually just move their arms out the top.

This thing weights about 40ish lbs and then their car seats are another 12lbs each, and then the babies are about 18lbs. Yikes! That is about 80lbs of stuff to push. Of course we were smart and went on our first adventure in the SW hills. I swear I was sweating after 15min of pushing this thing up hill. Who needs to work out when you could just push this humongous thing around all day! AND...as the babies get bigger it will get heavier! YIKES!

Last weekend I went to the Full House Mom's resale Event. This is a group of moms+dads of multiples. http://www.fullhousemoms.com/ They have a huge resale event for baby and kids stuff twice a year and at first I wasn't planning on going, but I got some inside info that there was some great stuff there. Well after making the rounds one time and being very cautious of making any purchases, I finally realized that in 20 minutes the sale would be open to the public and not just the FHM group. So Linda and I quickly went on a shopping rampage. In under an hour we purchased some great stuff. Unfortunately most of it won't be appropriate for the girls until they are a little older, but it is all barely used and for sale for a lot less than what we'd pay if I bought it brand new. Now one of our empty bedrooms is just full of baby stuff! The girls are going to have so much fun.
Oh, and a side note. Thank goodness for the mini van. We packed that thing tight with all our purchases. If we didn't have the mini and stow-able seating....we'd never have been able to bring it all home. And I wouldn't have my mini kitchen....um I mean Emily and Ellery wouldn't have their mini kitchen (see above)
